A married woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped by three armed men in front of her brother-in-law in Udham Singh Nagar’s Rudrapur on Sunday night. The perpetrators, known to the male witness, recorded the heinous act on their mobile phones and threatened to upload the video on social media if the survivor approached the police.

According to the complaint filed by the survivor at the Rampura police outpost, the incident took place around 9 pm when she and her brother-in-law were returning home from the ongoing Saras Mela at Gandhi Park. As the duo neared Modi Maidan on the Kichha bypass, they were intercepted by three men on two motorcycles, TOI reported.

The police have confirmed that the accused were acquaintances of the brother-in-law. They allegedly brandished a pistol and threatened to shoot the pair before forcing them to a deserted stretch near Thandi Sadak.

In a horrifying turn of events, the three men took turns raping the woman while her brother-in-law was held at gunpoint and forced to witness the assault. When the victim attempted to resist, one of the assailants attacked her with a sharp weapon, slashing a finger on her left hand.

To further intimidate and silence her, the perpetrators filmed the entire sexual assault, explicitly threatening to make the footage public.

The victim, in her statement to the police, reportedly detailed the threats levelled against her. She was warned of dire consequences, including death, should she report the crime.

Following the ordeal, the survivor managed to file a complaint, prompting the local police to initiate an investigation. According to TOI, Circle Officer (City) Prashant Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 70 and 351(3) against unknown persons.

However, sources indicate that the investigation is taking a significant turn as authorities focus on the survivor's brother-in-law. Given that the accused were known to him, police teams are conducting intense questioning to ascertain his role and identify the absconding suspects.
