Toyota Glanza gets 6 airbags as standard. Maruti Suzuki Baleno to follow?

There is no change in the price of the Glanza.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor today announced the addition of six airbags as standard across the entire Glanza range. For reference, the Glanza is the badge-engineered version of Maruti Suzuki India's popular premium hatchback, the Baleno.

The Glanza is offered in four trims -- E, S, G and V. Earlier, only the higher-spec G and V trims were equipped with six airbags. Now, lower E and S trims also get the same number of airbags.

If we talk about the Baleno, it also has four trims -- Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. While the Sigma and Delta trims still come with two airbags only, the Zeta and Alpha trims boast six airbags.

Since the Glanza now gets six airbags right from the entry-level variant, we expect the Baleno to follow as well. However, Toyota's announcement regarding six airbags seems a bit surprising as it has come before any kind of communication from Maruti, which manufactures both Baleno and Glanza.

Even after the fitment of additional airbags, there is no change in the price of the Glanza. It still sits in the price bracket of Rs 6.90 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Other than introducing standard six airbags across the Glanza range, Toyota has announced a new limited-period Prestige Package for the car. Available till July 31, the Prestige Package includes the following dealer-fitted accessories.

Premium door visors

Body side moulding with chrome and black accents

Rear lamp garnish

Chrome garnishes for ORVMs and fenders

Rear skid plate

Illuminated door sills

Lower grille garnish

Initially launched in India in June 2019, the Glanza has garnered sales of over 2 lakh units till now. Powering the Glanza is a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine, which generates 89.7 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The transmission options include a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT. There is also a CNG option (77.5 PS and 98.5 Nm) with a 5-speed MT.

The Glanza has a claimed mileage of 22.35 kmpl for petrol MT, 22.94 kmpl for petrol AMT and 30.61 kmpkg for CNG MT.
