Tesla opened its first Delhi showroom today at the Worldmark 3 complex in Aerocity, marking the company's second retail location in India after Mumbai. The expansion follows the brand's India debut at Maker Maxity, Bandra Kurla Complex, on July 15.
The Aerocity site functions as an experience centre where visitors can see the Model Y electric SUV and learn about purchase and charging options. It is positioned to serve customers across the National Capital Region.
The Delhi opening is part of a stepped rollout of retail and charging infrastructure. Alongside retail expansion, Tesla has begun building its public charging footprint, including a Supercharger facility alongside the Mumbai showroom.
For India, Tesla is focusing initially on the Model Y. The vehicle is available in multiple configurations globally; in India, bookings opened in July with the price starting at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Aerocity store's proximity to Indira Gandhi International Airport places it within a high-footfall commercial district that also hosts several global brands. Tesla's choice of location mirrors its Mumbai strategy of placing showrooms in dense mixed-use precincts to accelerate awareness and test drives. The Delhi outlet adds a northern hub to Tesla's India network and is expected to be joined by additional sites as the company scales operations.
Today's launch adds a second metro to Tesla's India retail map within a month of its market entry, indicating an accelerated push to capture premium EV demand ahead of the festive season. The company has not announced local manufacturing plans or additional models for India at this event, keeping focus on retail access and customer onboarding through the new experience centre.
Talking about the Model Y, the electric SUV has entered India in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup. While registrations are now open across the country, those in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Gurugram will be prioritised for delivery.
The standard RWD variant is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Long Range RWD version costs Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries for both models are planned for the third quarter of 2025. Prices are significantly higher than international levels due to heavy import duties on completely built-up units, which nearly double the cost.
The standard RWD offers a claimed range of 500km on a full charge, while the Long Range RWD extends this to 622km. Acceleration from 0 to 100kmph is rated at 5.9 seconds for the standard model and 5.6 seconds for the Long Range version, with both having a top speed of 201kmph. Fast charging can add up to 238km of range in 15 minutes for the standard variant and 267km for the Long Range.
The Model Y follows a minimalist design philosophy aimed at better aerodynamics and efficiency, with distinct curves, sharp lines, and a full LED lighting system, including front and rear lightbars. The wheels carry a futuristic look, and eight external cameras support advanced driving assistance features.
Inside, the SUV features aluminium trim, premium fabrics, and dual touchscreens -- a 15.4-inch unit at the front and an 8-inch display for the rear passengers. The front seats are powered and ventilated, while the second row offers power folding, heating, and two-way adjustment. Ambient lighting extends to footwells and door pockets, complemented by a nine-speaker sound system.
Noise levels are reduced through Tesla's updated suspension system, and laminated glass is used for the roof and windows. The SUV is available in six colours, with only Stealth Grey included as standard; other shades cost up to Rs 1.85 lakh extra.
