Mahindra & Mahindra will launch its new electric SUV, the Mahindra XEV 9S, today. This model marks the company's third born electric vehicle (BEV) based on the INGLO platform. Ahead of the Mahindra XEV 9S launch, the company has shared teasers confirming key details around design, seating, features and expected range.
The S in Mahindra XEV 9S stands for Seven, indicating its three-row layout. This sets it apart from the BE 6 and XEV 9e, which are both five-seater electric SUVs. Unlike the coupe-like profile of the XEV 9e, the Mahindra XEV 9S gets a conventional boxy silhouette to maximise interior space. The third row seats can be folded to free up a significantly larger boot area, which is expected to appeal to larger families looking at the Mahindra XEV 9S features and practicality.
The model also includes a front trunk (frunk). Mahindra highlights that this storage space is large enough to hold a small trolley bag, adding a notable convenience element for buyers comparing Mahindra XEV 9S specs with rivals.
The Mahindra XEV 9S shares several styling cues with the XEV 9e, including an upright nose, a full-width LED DRL bar and LED headlights placed below the DRL strip. The rear gets LED taillamps. These elements form the visual identity for the INGLO-based lineup, while the boxier shape of the Mahindra XEV 9S allows it to stand apart within the family. With the Mahindra XEV 9S launch today, the model will further expand the brand's design language across different body types.
Inside, the Mahindra XEV 9S gets a triple-screen dashboard layout similar to the XEV 9e -- a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment display and a separate passenger-side screen. The two-spoke steering wheel features an illuminated logo, and the model gets a panoramic sunroof instead of a fixed glass roof on select other EVs.
Confirmed Mahindra XEV 9S features include a Harman Kardon audio system, ventilated and powered front seats with memory and a powered Boss Mode function for the co-driver seat. A flat floor enables sliding second-row seats for better cabin flexibility. The centre console design is similar to that of the XEV 9e.
Mahindra currently offers 59kWh and 79kWh battery options in the BE 6 and XEV 9e, both delivering over 500km of combined city-highway range. For the Mahindra XEV 9S, expectations are higher, with the real-world Mahindra XEV 9S range likely to cross 600km. An all-wheel-drive variant may also be part of the line-up.
Official Mahindra XEV 9S price details will be revealed at launch. However, since the XEV 9e currently tops out at Rs 31.25 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra XEV 9S price in India is expected to be higher, positioning it as Mahindra's most expensive and capable electric SUV so far.
The BE 6 and XEV 9e, launched in November 2024, have already crossed 30,000 units in cumulative sales. The Mahindra XEV 9S launch adds a larger, more premium model to this range, targeting customers seeking more space, flexibility and long-range capability. As Mahindra expands its BEV line-up, the XEV 9S is expected to strengthen its presence in India's growing electric SUV market.
