Mahindra XEV 9S space revealed, check out boot and frunk space

Mahindra XEV 9S will be launched in India on November 27.

The XEV 9S will be Mahindra's third ground-up electric SUV.

Homegrown SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra will launch its third born electric vehicle (BEV), the Mahindra XEV 9S, in India on November 27. The company has released multiple teasers of the new electric SUV, with the most recent showcasing its space.

In the Mahindra XEV 9S, S stands for Seven, implying that the electric SUV is a seven-seater model. For reference, the company's other two BEVs -- the Mahindra BE6 and the Mahindra XEV 9e -- are five-seater models.

Unlike the XEV 9e, which has a coupe-like design, the XEV 9S has a rather conventional boxy design, allowing more space overall. While the third row comes in with two seats, folding it completely will free up a generous amount of space for luggage, as can be seen from the teaser.

You will see a lot of EVs having a frunk, which is basically a storage space at the front under the hood. The XEV 9S also has a frunk. The surprising bit, though, is the size of the electric SUV's frunk, which is capable of accommodating a small trolley bag.

Like the BE 6 and the XEV 9e, the XEV 9S is also built on Mahindra's EV-only INGLO platform. In fact, the XEV 9S and XEV 9e look quite similar from the front -- both get an upright nose, a full-width LED DRL bar and LED headlights placed just below it. The rear gets LED taillights as well.

The cabin is where things get really interesting. The teasers already show a premium-looking interior with a triple-screen setup, just like the XEV 9e. This includes a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment screen and a separate display for the co-passenger. It also comes with a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, a panoramic sunroof instead of the fixed glass roof offered on some other models and a centre console layout that is quite similar to that of the XEV 9e.

Some features have already been confirmed -- a Harman Kardon sound system, ventilated and powered front seats with memory and a powered Boss Mode function for the co-driver seat. Thanks to its flat floor, the XEV 9S also offers sliding second-row seats, which should help make the cabin more flexible.

Mahindra offers the BE 6 and XEV 9e with 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs, both delivering a combined range of over 500km. For the XEV 9S, expectations are even higher; real-world range could cross 600km, and an all-wheel-drive option might also be on the cards. Since the XEV 9e currently tops out at Rs 31,25,000 (ex-showroom), the XEV 9S is expected to be priced above that, making it Mahindra's most expensive and capable electric SUV so far.

The BE 6 and XEV 9e were launched in India in November 2024, and together they've already crossed 30,000 units in cumulative sales.
