Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to introduce a special edition of the BE 6 electric SUV today, adding another variant to its BE range. This comes even as the company gears up to launch the 7-seater Mahindra XEV 9S electric SUV on November 27. The XEV 9S will be the third battery electric vehicle (BEV) based on the INGLO skateboard architecture after the BE 6 and the XEV 9e, both of which are 5-seater models.
The special edition of the BE 6 is expected to be a Formula E-inspired version. It could get Mahindra's new Gen 3.5 Formula E livery, which was revealed last month.
Mahindra has been part of the Formula E championship since 2014. In the 2024-25 season, the company secured a fourth-place finish, ahead of teams such as Neom McLaren and Maserati MSG.
"The unveiling of Mahindra's striking Gen 3.5 Formula E livery on October 14 is a taste of what's to come -- bold design, next-gen performance, and unmistakable attitude. The same spirit runs through Mahindra's upcoming line-up of electric origin SUVs, which blend head-turning looks, advanced technology and a wholesome SUV lifestyle -- they just happen to be electric," the company said in an official release on October 15.
This is not the first time Mahindra has experimented with special editions for the BE 6. Earlier this year, the company introduced the BE 6 Batman Edition in partnership with Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products. Its immediate popularity was evident as all 999 units were snapped up in just 135 seconds after bookings opened.
The BE 6 is offered with two battery pack options -- 59kWh and 79kWh. Mahindra claims a range of 557km for the 59kWh variant and 683km for the 79kWh variant on a full charge. While the Batman Edition was based on the top-spec variant of the BE 6, the Formula E-inspired version is also likely to be built on the highest trim.
Prices for the standard BE 6 currently start at Rs 18.90 lakh and go up to Rs 27.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The model competes with the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Tata Curvv.ev.
Mahindra launched both the BE 6 and XEV 9e in India in November 2024. Together, the two electric SUVs have recorded sales of over 30,000 units so far.
In Q2 FY26, Mahindra held a 25% share of the electric SUV market. The share of EVs within its overall SUV portfolio reached 8.7% during the quarter, compared with the industry's 7.4% penetration.
