Mahindra planning another BE 6 special edition after Batman edition's success?

The new special edition model could be the Formula E-inspired version of the BE 6.

Mahindra might introduce another special edition model of the BE 6 on November 26.

Mahindra & Mahindra will launch the 7-seater Mahindra XEV 9S electric SUV in India on November 27. It will be the company's third INGLO skateboard architecture-based battery electric vehicle (BEV) after the Mahindra BE 6 and the Mahindra XEV 9e, both being 5-seater models. However, the company has teased a special edition model of the BE 6 for the November 26 launch.

The special edition model could be the Formula E-inspired version of the BE 6. Mahindra joined the Formula E championship in 2014. In the 2024-25 Formula E season, it finished fourth ahead of teams like Neom McLaren and Maserati MSG. Last month, the XEV 9e-maker unveiled the Gen 3.5 Formula E livery.

"The unveiling of Mahindra's striking Gen 3.5 Formula E livery on October 14 is a taste of what's to come -- bold design, next-gen performance, and unmistakable attitude. The same spirit runs through Mahindra's upcoming line-up of electric origin SUVs, which blend head-turning looks, advanced technology and a wholesome SUV lifestyle -- they just happen to be electric," the company said in an official release on October 15.

Earlier this year, the company introduced the BE 6 Batman Edition in collaboration with Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products. The popularity of the BE 6 Batman Edition can be gauged from the fact that all 999 units of the vehicle were sold out in merely 135 seconds of the opening of bookings.

The Mahindra BE 6 gets a couple of battery pack options -- 59kWh and 79kWh. The claimed range is 557km for the BE 6 59kWh and 683km for the BE 6 79kWh, on a single full charge. While the Batman Edition was based on the top-spec variant of the BE 6, the Formula E-inspired edition could be based on the range-topping trim as well.

The price of the standard BE 6 now ranges from Rs 18.90 lakh to Rs 27.65 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Tata Curvv.ev.

Mahindra launched the BE 6 and the XEV 9e in India in November 2024. The company has sold over 30,000 units of the two electric SUVs so far.

While Mahindra had electric SUV volume market share of 25% in Q2 FY26, the penetration of electric models in its overall SUV portfolio reached 8.7% during the quarter in comparison to 7.4% for the industry.

Talking about the XEV 9S, Mahindra has released several teasers of the electric SUV on social media, revealing its premium interior. The cabin features a triple-screen setup -- instrument cluster, infotainment display and a co-driver screen -- similar to what is offered in the XEV 9e. It also uses a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo. The centre console layout appears largely unchanged, but the XEV 9S differentiates itself with a panoramic sunroof in place of the fixed glass roof of the XEV 9e.

Mahindra's latest SUVs, across both ICE and BEV line-ups, are known for extensive feature lists, and the XEV 9S seems to follow the same approach. Confirmed features include a Harman Kardon audio system, ventilated seats, powered seats with memory, and a boss mode function for the co-driver seat. It benefits from a flat-floor layout, improving cabin space and flexibility. The model also offers sliding second-row seats to enhance legroom.
