New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced protests outside Gracie Mansion on Sunday after newly released Jeffrey Epstein-related documents mentioned his mother, filmmaker Mira Nair.
Videos show residents shouting “shame” and confronting the mayor about the emails. One protester said, “We voted for you… you lied to us,” while others demanded accountability for his family’s alleged connection to the Epstein case.
🚨 BREAKING: New Yorkers are developing buyer's remorse for Zohran Mamdani, spotted HECKLING him and yelling "SHAME!" after basically nothing is going according to plan"We advocated for you, we voted for you! The documents were released by the U.S. Department of Justice under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law in November 2025. The release includes over 3 million pages, more than 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images, spanning multiple investigations into Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and related cases in New York and Florida.
Among the records is an October 21, 2009, email from publicist Peggy Siegal describing an afterparty at Maxwell’s Manhattan townhouse following the screening of Nair’s 2009 film Amelia, starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere. The email mentions high-profile attendees, including Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos, and comments on the film’s reception and the party atmosphere.
The documents do not accuse Nair of any wrongdoing, and the Justice Department said earlier releases had withheld sensitive materials to protect victims.
Mayor Mamdani, who assumed office on January 1, 2026, is the youngest and first Muslim mayor of New York City, having defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the 2025 election.
