Pakistan Army chief general Asim Munir’s daughter Mahnoor got married to her cousin Captain Abdul Rahman on December 26, at an event that was deliberately kept out of public view keeping security considerations in mind. Even as it was attended by some of the top political leaders including Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the ISI chief among others, no official photographs of the event were released.
Pakistani journalist Zahid Gishkori shared a video on social media platform X --since deleted -- confirming that General Munir had arranged his daughter’s nikah with his brother’s son. “Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir's daughter Mahnoor married his brother's son, ex-army captain turned civil servant Abdul Rehman Qasim,” he said, according to a report by Times of India.
Around 400 guests reportedly attended the event, which coincided with the arrival of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Pakistan.
Who is Abdul Rahman?
The recent marriage of Munir’s daughter, Mahnoor, to his nephew, Captain Abdul Rahman -- the son of his brother Qasim Munir -- has drawn quiet attention in security circles.
Conducted within the immediate family, the union has fueled speculation that Pakistan Army’s top brass may now be openly leaning into clan consolidation as part of its governance approach.
Rahman served as a captain in the Pakistani Army before moving into civil services through a quote reserved for army officers. He currently serves as an assistant commissioner.
Who all attended the wedding ceremonies?
The ceremonies were held not at a hotel or public venue but within Munir’s residence near General Headquarters, reinforcing the view that Pakistan’s real centre of power continues to lie within Rawalpindi’s military enclave.
Although described as a private affair, the event drew an unusually high-profile guest list, including Asif Ali Zardari, Shehbaz Sharif, deputy PM Ishaq Dar, the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence, and several senior generals. According to several reports, the UAE President also attended the wedding of Munir’s daughter.
According to Indian intelligence assessments, the choice to host all functions inside military-controlled venues in Rawalpindi points to GHQ’s move toward formalising bloodline-based trust structures, CNN-News18 reported.
Inviting the UAE President as chief guest is interpreted as a message that Gulf backing for Pakistan’s military leadership remains intact, even amid internal turbulence, and reflects Munir’s push to extract financial, diplomatic, and strategic assurances from Abu Dhabi.
