As US and Israeli air raids reportedly strike deep within Iran, global attention has shifted to the whereabouts of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His public silence since the first explosions were reported in and around Tehran has fuelled intense speculation about his safety and the stability of Iran’s command structure.
According to multiple reports, strikes targeted key military and strategic locations in and around the Iranian capital. There are also claims that Khamenei’s residence in Tehran was among the sites hit in the joint operation. Iranian state media has so far offered limited clarity on the extent of the damage or the precise movements of the Supreme Leader, adding to the uncertainty.
Unconfirmed reports circulating on social media suggest that Khamenei may have been relocated to an undisclosed secure facility within Tehran or possibly elsewhere in the country. Analysts note that hardline factions within Iran’s establishment have long maintained alternate command centres to safeguard top leadership during moments of crisis. Such contingency planning is considered standard practice in anticipation of external attacks or internal instability.
The developments come after US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States had launched what he described as a “massive and ongoing” military campaign against Iran. In a video message posted on social media, Trump framed the operation as a necessary step to eliminate imminent threats posed by Tehran.
“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people,” Trump said. He added that the United States military was acting to prevent Iran from threatening American lives and core national security interests, vowing to “destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground.”
Trump also accused Iran of attempting to revive its nuclear programme despite prior warnings from Washington. “We warned them never to resume their malicious pursuit of nuclear weapons and sought repeatedly to make a deal,” he said, asserting that Tehran had rejected diplomatic opportunities and that “we can't take it anymore.”
The escalating confrontation has raised fears of a broader regional conflict. With questions mounting over Khamenei’s location and Iran’s immediate response, governments across West Asia and beyond are closely monitoring developments. The coming days are expected to determine whether the strikes remain limited in scope or spiral into a prolonged and wider confrontation.
