The United States and Israel carried out coordinated military strikes on Iran on Saturday, February 28, targeting sites in Tehran. Early reports said the first attacks hit areas near offices linked to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was later reported to have been moved to a secure location.
The strikes have intensified fears of a wider regional conflict, with Iran launching retaliatory actions and both sides raising the stakes.
Baba Vanga prophecy resurfaces online
As tensions escalate, social media has revived references to the predictions of Baba Vanga, the blind Bulgarian mystic who died in 1996.
Followers claim her warning of a “Great War” beginning in early 2026, originating from the East, could be linked to the unfolding US-Iran confrontation.
Posts circulating online suggest the conflict could gradually expand beyond the Middle East if hostilities continue.
What did the prophecy claim?
According to interpretations attributed to Vanga, Europe would be among the worst-affected regions in such a conflict, facing widespread devastation and instability.
Some versions of the prophecy also claim that Russia would emerge stronger on the global stage after the turmoil, potentially altering the balance of power.
There is no scientific evidence supporting these predictions, but they frequently resurface during periods of geopolitical crisis.
Netanyahu and Trump defend strikes
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel, in coordination with the United States, had launched a military operation against Iran.
He described the action as necessary to counter what he called an “existential nuclear threat” from Tehran and said the aim was to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
US President Donald Trump also confirmed the strikes.
“In advance of the investigation, we launched extensive military operations in Iran. Our goal is to protect the people of America by eliminating the imminent threats from its own regime, Iran,” Trump said.
He warned Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard and urged Iranians to challenge their government, saying: “When we are finished, take over your government — it will be yours to take. This will probably be your only chance for generations.”
Airspace closures after retaliation fears
Following the strikes and Iran’s retaliatory moves, Tehran shut its airspace, affecting civilian and commercial flights.
Israel also halted departures and arrivals amid concerns of potential missile or drone retaliation.
