The United States has strongly condemned the dastardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, and reaffirmed its support to India. Both President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vande spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and extended their unequivocal support to New Delhi in its fight against terrorism.

Meanwhile, the US government’s foreign affairs committee went on to point out American publication New York Times for using the word “militants” instead of “terrorists” in one of its report on the attack.

The headline of the New York Times article read: “At least 24 tourists gunned down by militants in Kashmir”. Quoting the screenshot of the same on X, America’s Foreign Affairs Committee wrote: “Hey, @nytimes we fixed it for you. This was a TERRORIST ATTACK plain and simple. Whether it’s India or Israel, when it comes to TERRORISM the NYT is removed from reality.”

For the unversed, the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs, is a standing committee of the US House of Representatives with jurisdiction over bills and investigations concerning the foreign affairs of the United States.

Earlier, in a call with PM Modi, Trump strongly condemned the terror attack and expressed full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of the “heinous attack”.

He “conveyed his deepest condolences at the loss of innocent lives in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.

“India and the United States stand together in the fight against terror,” said the post.

In an earlier post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!”

Terrorists opened fire on Tuesday (April 22) at a famed meadow near Pahalgam town in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people, mostly tourists, in what is the deadliest attack in the Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019. The attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group.
