A pale grey pigeon intercepted in Kharah village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector has raised security concerns, prompting a detailed police investigation.

The bird, marked with two black bars on each wing, had identification rings on its legs, a red ring on the left leg inscribed with “Rehmat Sarkar (03158080213)” and a yellow ring on the right leg reading “Rizwan 2025 (017282).”

Adding to the mystery, the pigeon’s wings bore a stamp that read “Nowshera Aling Pigeon Club,” pointing to Nowshera, a city in Pakistan. The bird was handed over to Pallanwala police, who are investigating whether it was trained for long-distance communication.

While authorities have not linked the pigeon to any terror activity, its discovery near the sensitive LoC region has triggered heightened vigilance. Security agencies are examining the markings and inscriptions to trace the bird’s origin, amid ongoing cross-border security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir.

The pigeon was handed over to Pallanwala police, who are examining whether it was trained or used for long-distance communication. While authorities have not linked the bird to any terror activity, the incident is being treated with caution due to the village’s proximity to the sensitive LoC region.

Separately, a red balloon inscribed with “Pakistan Zindabad” in Urdu was found earlier this month in an agricultural field in Khanpur village, Samba district. Police suspect it may have originated from across the border and have taken it into custody for investigation.

These incidents follow other recent cross-border security alerts, including the recovery of a suspicious packet near the LoC in Poonch district following drone activity. Authorities have urged residents in border areas to remain vigilant and report unusual objects or movements.

Security agencies continue to investigate both the pigeon and the balloon as part of heightened vigilance along Jammu and Kashmir’s border regions.
