The funeral prayer of Bangladesh youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi will be held at 2 pm today (Saturday) at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka. His body arrived in the capital on Friday evening from Singapore via Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Following the funeral prayer, Hadi will be laid to rest beside the grave of Bangladesh’s national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, in accordance with his family’s wishes. Inqilab Mancha, the organisation for which Hadi served as a spokesperson, announced the decision in a social media post.

Earlier, the funeral prayer had been scheduled for 2:30 pm, but the timing was later revised to 2 pm.

In a post on X, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus confirmed the funeral arrangements and issued security-related instructions for attendees.

“Those who will attend the funeral prayer for Shaheed Osman Hader are especially requested not to carry any bags or heavy items,” the post read. “At the same time, it is informed for the awareness of all concerned that flying drones in the Parliament House and surrounding areas is completely prohibited.”

“Upon the family's wishes, a decision has been taken to bury Hadi beside the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and to hold his funeral prayer after Zuhr tomorrow at Manik Mia Avenue,” the organisation said.

Sharif Osman Hadi died on Thursday in Singapore, where he had been undergoing treatment after being shot by unidentified assailants on December 12. His death was confirmed by Muhammad Yunus in a televised address to the nation, triggering widespread protests across Bangladesh, some of which later turned violent.

The funeral is expected to draw a large gathering amid tight security in and around the Parliament complex. Stone-pelting was reported at the residence of the Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Chattogram on Saturday, though no damage was caused, officials said.

Police intervened to disperse the crowd, using tear gas and baton charges, and detained at least 12 people in connection with the incident. Senior officials later visited the residence and assured the Indian diplomat of enhanced security arrangements, authorities added.
