Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Israel in the last week of February, government sources told CNN-News18. During the visit, the prime minister is expected to travel to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, underscoring the political and strategic importance New Delhi attaches to the relationship.
If confirmed, the visit would come at a time of heightened geopolitical churn in West Asia, with the region witnessing ongoing security tensions, diplomatic realignments, and uncertainty over the future of several conflict zones. Against this backdrop, India and Israel have continued to strengthen cooperation across defence, security, intelligence sharing, technology, trade, agriculture, and innovation.
Prime Minister Modi last visited Israel in 2017, becoming the first Indian prime minister to do so. That landmark trip marked a clear shift in India-Israel ties, moving the relationship from a relatively discreet engagement to a more open and publicly articulated partnership. The visit helped lay the foundation for closer defence collaboration, expanded technology partnerships, and more frequent high-level political exchanges.
Since then, bilateral relations have continued to grow steadily. India has emerged as one of Israel’s key defence partners, while Israeli expertise in areas such as agriculture, water management, cyber security, and advanced technologies has found increasing relevance in India’s development priorities. Regular ministerial visits and institutional mechanisms have kept engagement active despite regional turbulence.
If the proposed February visit goes ahead, it is expected to go beyond bilateral cooperation. Discussions are likely to include regional and global developments, particularly the evolving security situation in West Asia and its wider implications. For both sides, the visit would signal continuity in strategic alignment and reinforce a shared intent to further institutionalise a partnership that has expanded in scope and depth over the past decade.
