Photos showing Britain’s former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor crouching over an unidentified woman lying on the floor are among millions of documents released by the US Justice Department linked to late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The images, released on Friday, add to the embarrassment surrounding Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles last year and can no longer use the titles “Prince” or “Duke of York”. In the photographs, Andrew is seen barefoot, wearing jeans and a white polo shirt.
In one image, his hand appears to be on the woman’s stomach, while in another, he looks directly into the camera. The woman’s identity, and the time and location of the photos, remain unknown.
The pictures form part of more than 3 million pages, 2,000 videos, and 1,80,000 images released after US President Donald Trump approved the Epstein Files Transparency Act last year. The law mandates the release of unclassified material related to Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Epstein was found dead in his prison cell on August 10, 2019.
Following the release, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Andrew should cooperate with US lawmakers probing the Epstein case. “Anybody who has got information should be prepared to share that information in whatever form they are asked to do that,” Starmer said. “You can’t be victim-centred if you’re not prepared to do that.”
The latest files also reveal email exchanges in which Epstein proposed introducing a 26-year-old Russian woman to Andrew, describing her as “clever and beautiful”, and discussed the possibility of a private dinner at Buckingham Palace after his release from house arrest. Records do not confirm whether any such meetings took place.
Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. He previously settled a civil lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre in 2022 without admitting guilt.
