Dutch politician Geert Wilders has called Pakistan a “100% terror state” after the Bondi Beach massacre in which 15 people died.
Australian authorities on Tuesday said the mass shooting during Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach was a “terrorist attack inspired by Islamic State”. The suspects in the case are a father, 50, and his 24-year-old son.
The older suspect was killed in the incident, while the younger was hospitalised.
A news conference by political and law enforcement leaders on Tuesday was the first time officials confirmed their beliefs about the suspects' ideologies.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the remarks were based on evidence obtained, including “the presence of Islamic State flags in the vehicle that has been seized”, according to a report by the Associated Press.
There are 25 people still being treated in hospitals after Sunday's massacre, 10 of them in critical condition. Three of them are patients in a children's hospital.
In a post on X, Wilders, leader of the right-wing Party for Freedom (PVV), said, “Pakistan is 100% terror state. A dangerous Sharia shithole. Osama bin Laden lived there for many years. The #bondibeach terrorists are from Pakistan. I got many fatwas to kill me from Pakistani mullahs. We should all boycott and isolate #Pakistan.”
This isn’t the first time that Wilders has taken a strong stance against Pakistan.
Wilders was among the global politicians who strongly supported India after the Indian military launched Operation Sindoor in early May, a retaliatory action aimed at terrorist camps in Pakistan.
He wrote on X: “I love India. #Kashmir is 100% Indian.” He hashtagged this post #PakistanBehindPahalgam.
Moreover, after the Narendra Modi-led government abrogated Article 370 in 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir, Wilders supported the move openly. “I support my friends in #India about #Kashmir and their decision to revoke #Art370. No more state terrorism from #Pakistan!” he said.
