Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that his country has accepted the bilateral ceasefire with Iran after a proposal put forth by US President Donald Trump. He also expressed his gratitude to Trump for supporting Israel in defence and participating in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat.

The Israeli PM asserted that the country had achieved all the objectives against Iran.

"Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defense and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat," Reuters quoted a statement by Netanyahu's office.

Earlier, Trump said that the ceasefire between Israel and Iran was "now in effect" and asked both countries not to violate it. His statement came hours after Iran launched waves of missiles, which Israel's ambulance service said killed at least four people.

As he agreed to the ceasefire, Netanyahu also stated that Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire.

A senior White House official told Reuters that Trump brokered the ceasefire between Israel and Iran through talks with the Israeli PM on Monday while his team, including Vice President JD Vance, held talks with Tehran.

Sharing details on condition of anonymity, the official stated that Israel agreed to it so long as Iran does not launch fresh attacks. Iran signaled that no further attacks would take place, the official said.

Trump said both Israel and Iran reached out to him nearly at the same time for peace. Taking to Truth Social, Trump stated, "Both Nations will see tremendous LOVE, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY in their futures. They have so much to gain, and yet, so much to lose if they stray from the road of RIGHTEOUSNESS & TRUTH. The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED, & filled with great PROMISE. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH."
