A divorce that might otherwise have remained private has spilled into public view after Wall Street investor Jeffrey Leeds made detailed allegations in court against his wife, Elizabeth Leeds.
In filings submitted as part of their ongoing legal dispute, 69-year-old Jeffrey Leeds claims his wife used money from their shared accounts to support another man, both personally and professionally. The documents accuse Elizabeth, 43, of having what he described as a “torrid” relationship with businessman Alberto Tawil and of investing marital funds into Tawil’s business interests.
One of the ventures mentioned in the complaint is based in Mozambique. The filings state that more than USD 275,000 was transferred from joint funds in connection with Tawil’s businesses. At current exchange rates, that would amount to roughly Rs 2.5 crore.
The complaint also alleges that marital funds were used to purchase luxury items and personal gifts for Tawil, including covering the salaries of the 21 members of his household staff, and purchasing “erotic gifts,” according to court filings. These claims are drawn from court documents and have not yet been tested in trial. No final ruling has been made on the allegations.
In her Palm Beach County filings, Elizabeth accused her estranged husband of exerting “financial warfare” against her and of harassing her friends — including Alberto Tawil and New York jeweller Anne Baker — with what she described as unnecessary and intimidating subpoenas.
According to a New York Post report, properties worth USD 100 million are at stake in this high-profile divorce. These include a USD 22 million, 14-room apartment at the iconic 740 Park Avenue in Manhattan, a USD 23.5 million Southampton estate with 11 bedrooms and 12.5 bathrooms, and a USD 35.6 million mansion in Palm Beach, according to property records.
For now, the matter remains unresolved. The allegations form part of an ongoing legal process, and it will ultimately be up to the court to determine what happened and how the couple’s assets should be divided.
