This doesn’t include the odd loss of three fighter jets that the US suffered over skies in Kuwait due to apparent ‘friendly fire.’

Most of the analysts feel that when US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched ‘pre-emptive’ strikes against Iran on February 28, both must have thought it to be a quick military operation.

  • Over 1,000 Iranians killed; global economic impact expected

As the West Asia war enters day 5, Iran’s retaliation is proving to be an unmanageable pain for the US. Most of the analysts feel that when US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched ‘pre-emptive’ strikes against Iran on February 28, both must have thought it to be a quick military operation. The joint strikes soon served the biggest purpose – elimination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. But it seems the retaliatory power of Tehran was underestimated.

Iran has proved to be a tough opposition with launching new strikes targeting key American military bases across West Asia. From neighbouring Iraq to Saudi Arabia to United Arab Emirates, asymmetric war tactics by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are clearly visible.

As per an infographic posted by ‘Visual Capitalist’ on X, Iran’s counter-attack list is growing by the day. So far, Tehran has managed to bypass all air defence systems to the US targets. As of March 4, the list of US military bases hit by Iranian drones and missile include:

  • Erbil Air Base (Iraq)
  • Ain al-Asad Air Base (Iraq)
  • Akrotini (Cyprus)
  • Muwaffaq al-Salti Air Base (Jordan)
  • Ali Al-Salem Air Base (Kuwait)
  • Camp Buehring (Kuwait)
  • NSA Bahrain (Bahrain)
  • Al Udeid Air Base (Qatar)
  • Prince Sultan Air Base (Saudi Arabia)
  • Jebel Ali Port (UAE)
  • Al Dhafra Air Base (UAE)

The US is deploying more airpower to tackle Tehran. Trump had previously said that the US has unlimited stockpile of weapons and he is ready for ‘forever wars.’ As of now, the milltary bases that have remained safe in the war are:

  • İzmir Air Station (Türkiye)
  • Incirlik Air Base (Türkiye)
  • Akrotiri (RAF) – UK also hosts U.S. troops (Cyprus)
  • NE Syria (various locations)
  • MFO South Camp (Sinai, Egypt)
  • Camp Arifjan (Kuwait)
  • Camp As Sayliyah (Qatar)
  • Thumrait / Masirah (Oman)
  • Camp Lemonnier (Djibouti)
  • Duqm Port (Oman)

This doesn’t include the odd loss of three fighter jets that the US suffered over skies in Kuwait due to apparent ‘friendly fire.’ Iran has also claimed twice of hitting American destroyer USS Abraham Lincoln with ballistic missiles. A Turkish media report has estimated that the US has lost weapons worth billions.

In Iran, over 1,000 people have died due to the strikes that were launched by the US and Israel on Saturday, February 28, 2026. While many Western powers have distanced themselves from the crisis, there are reports that countries such as France and Britain are close to deploy major military assets in the region. The geopolitical crisis is likely to impact global economy.
