The memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk brought US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk together in public for the first time since their highly publicized fallout. Lip-reader Nicola Hickling has now revealed the details of their brief exchange.
According to Hickling, Trump greeted Musk with, “How are you doing?” and added, “So Elon, I've heard you wanted to chat.” He then suggested, “Let's try and work out how to get back on track.” Musk nodded in response, and Trump tapped his hand, saying, “I've missed you,” as reported by the Daily Mail. Footage of the interaction was shared by the official White House account on X.

The two were seated side-by-side in a packed stadium in Glendale, Arizona, where thousands had gathered to honor Kirk, who was shot dead earlier this month at a Utah university campus. Once closely linked during Trump’s second term, the pair had a falling out over government spending plans.
Images of the two men together at the memorial were posted by both the White House social media account and Musk’s X account. When asked about the meeting, Trump said, “Well, Elon came over and said hello. I thought it was nice that he came over. Had a little conversation. We had a good relationship, but it was nice that he came over.”
Musk had spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting Trump’s election campaign and actively campaigned in key battleground states. He also led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) but left the administration in June.
At Sunday’s memorial service for Charlie Kirk, however, there were signs the two were attempting to mend fences. Musk shared a photo of himself and Trump seated together on his X account with the simple caption, “For Charlie.”

Trump Musk feud
Musk was once one of Trump’s most prominent supporters, donating over $270 million to his presidential campaign. After Trump returned to office, he appointed Musk to head the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aimed at reducing government waste. The department’s initiatives led to thousands of federal job cuts, earning both praise and criticism.
Their alliance later deteriorated when Musk opposed a major tax and spending bill supported by the White House. He described the legislation as “utterly insane and destructive" and even floated the idea of launching his own “America First” party, though the plan never materialized.
Both Kirk and Musk had been actively involved in registering Republican voters during the 2024 presidential election to influence key swing states.
Musk, who had led DOGE during the early months of Trump’s second term, stepped down from the post in June. Their fallout escalated when Musk accused Trump of being implicated in the Jeffrey Epstein files, prompting Trump to suggest he might consider deporting Musk.
