A wave of retaliatory strikes launched by Iran in the wider Middle East conflict late Saturday night directly touched the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE's) commercial and luxury landmarks, marking an unprecedented escalation in regional tensions.
The Iranian retaliation followed a major U.S.–Israeli strike on Iran. UAE authorities reported that hundreds of missiles and drones were launched at Gulf states, with multiple systems intercepted. Most intercepted projectiles fell harmlessly, but debris caused fires and structural impacts.
Among the most prominent sites affected was the iconic Burj Al Arab, the sail-shaped ultra-luxury seven-star hotel on its own artificial island off Jumeirah. Dubai authorities confirmed that debris from an intercepted Iranian drone struck the hotel’s outer facade, sparking a minor fire. Civil defence teams quickly brought the flames under control, and no casualties were reported at the site.

On Palm Jumeirah, the city’s renowned man-made island famed for luxury resorts and residences, a fire broke out near the five-star Fairmont The Palm hotel.
Dubai officials said four people were injured in the blaze and were treated in hospital, though it remains unclear whether the hotel was directly hit or struck by falling debris from intercepted projectiles. Witnesses captured dramatic footage of smoke rising above the leisure destination as emergency crews worked to secure the scene.

At the strategic Jebel Ali Port, debris from aerial intercepts ignited a blaze at one of the berths. Dubai Civil Defence teams responded swiftly to contain the fire. Although not a direct military target, the port is crucial to the UAE’s logistics and international shipping operations.

Across Dubai, defence systems intercepted hundreds of drones and missiles, minimizing direct hits but underscoring the volatile environment facing even non-combatant Gulf states.
