With H-1B visa sponsorships increasingly out of reach due to a reported $100,000 fee, interest in the so-called Einstein visa has surged. The visa, officially the EB-1A, is intended for individuals with “extraordinary ability” and does not require a US job offer.
A CBS News investigation found that brokers are helping applicants appear “extraordinary” for a fee, sometimes by adding their names as co-authors on scholarly articles. Most clients, the report said, are from India and are seeking EB-1A or similar employment-based visas.
The brokers deny any illegal activity, framing their services as helping applicants build a legitimate profile.
Arizona-based service promises rapid eligibility
CBS News identified an Arizona-based service run by Indian-origin Ranjeet Mudholkar, himself an EB-1A Green Card recipient. The company claims it can make clients eligible for Einstein visas within months and says 56 individuals have successfully obtained visas through its program.
However, some former participants told CBS that they later realised they were effectively “buying” credentials. Investigators noted that many recipients received awards such as the “Globee Business Award,” which can be easily purchased, and published in Indian-based journals for a fee.
Mudholkar defended his program, telling CBS: “Our company does not sell, require, or mandate any specific awards, journals, or publications, nor does it submit evidence without legal review and advisement. Participants retain agency over where they publish.” He added that some clients misunderstood the program and assumed shortcuts that were not offered.
