In yet another incident of attacks against Hindus in Bangladesh, an auto driver, was beaten to death by a group of attackers in Daganbhuiyan in Bangladesh’s Chittagong on Sunday evening.
Samir Das, a 28-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, was brutally assaulted and stabbed to death by a group of attackers on Sunday evening. According to journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, the assailants escaped after taking away his auto-rickshaw.
Samir was the eldest son of Kartik Kumar Das and Rina Rani Das.
Another Hindu killed in Bangladesh! On January 11 evening, miscreants kil-led Samir Kumar Das (28) and took-away his CNG autorickshaw from Feni district's Dagonbhuiyan area. This marks the latest in a series of attacks on Hindu minorities in the neighbouring country. Several Hindus have been assaulted in Bangladesh following violent protests that broke out after the death of July uprising organiser Sharif Osman Hadi in Singapore.
"Sameer was murdered with country-made weapons and beaten to death. Prima facie, it appears to be a pre-planned murder. The perpetrators also looted an auto-rickshaw after the killing. The victim's family will file a First Information Report (FIR). The police have launched an operation to identify and arrest the culprits," a police officer in Daganbhuiyana was quoted in an NDTV report.
Proloy Chaki, a musician who also served as cultural affairs secretary of the Awami League’s Pabna district unit, died in prison on Sunday night, reportedly due to a heart attack. He had been taken into custody over a case related to an alleged attack on the anti-discrimination student movement, though Awami League supporters maintain that the charges were fabricated.
Another Hindu man, identified as Joy Mahapatro, was allegedly beaten and later poisoned by a local Muslim last week.
India stated last week that it remains vigilant about the situation in the neighbouring country and hopes that authorities will take strong and timely action to curb communal violence.
"We continue to witness a disturbing pattern of recurring attacks on minorities, as well as their homes and establishments, business establishments by extremists in Bangladesh. Such communal incidents need to be dealt with swiftly and firmly," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a press briefing, in response to a question on growing attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
