A recording, allegedly with the voice of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, has reportedly surfaced, showing the extent of 'suicide bombing' incidents that he had planned.
The date and timing of the recording seem unverified. But in the audio, Azhar could be heard saying that thousands of suicide bombers are ready for him to give a go ahead fo planned attacks at multiple places.
"Ye (suicide bombers) ek nahi, do nahi, 100 nahi, ye 1000 bhi nahi, agar poori taadat bata doon, toh kal duniya ki media par hungama mach jayega..." (These suicide bombers are not one, not two, not 100, not even 1,000. If I tell you the full number, there will be an uproar in the world's media tomorrow...)," the audio said, as per media reports.
Azhar reportedly also said that these suicide bombers are apparently very motivated to give their life for their cause.
Masood Azhar has for years been known for issuing incendiary remarks targeting India and is alleged to be the mastermind behind several high-profile terror attacks, including the 2001 assault on Parliament and the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The latest communication has emerged months after Indian security forces carried out strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammed facilities in Pakistan, among them the group’s headquarters in Bahawalpur.
The strikes were reportedly part of Operation Sindoor, which was India’s response to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, and are believed to have resulted in the deaths of several of Azhar’s close family members.
According to sources in the Delhi Police, Umar Mohammad, a suspect in a blast in the national capital that left at least 15 people dead and around 20 others injured, has also been linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Azhar has not been seen in public since 2019, when his hideout in Bahawalpur was rocked by a powerful explosion carried out by unknown assailants, which he survived. Since that incident, he has largely stayed away from public view.
