22-year-old Indian student Saketh Sreenivasaiah found dead in US after going missing on February 9

A 22-year-old Indian postgraduate student at UC Berkeley, missing since early February, has been found dead in California, with the Indian Consulate extending support to his family.

Indian student Saketh Sreenivasaiah, missing since Feb 9, found dead in United States

A 22-year-old Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, who had been missing in the United States since early February, has been found dead, India’s mission in San Francisco said on Sunday.

Sreenivasaiah, a postgraduate student at University of California, Berkeley from Tumakuru in Karnataka, was last seen near a lake in Tilden Regional Park, California. Local police confirmed recovery of the body after search efforts.

“The Consulate deeply regrets to inform that local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time,” the Consulate General of India in San Francisco said.

“The Consulate stands ready to provide all necessary assistance to the family, including coordination with local authorities and arrangements for the repatriation of the mortal remains to India at the earliest. Our consular officers are in direct contact with the family and will support them with all required formalities and services,” it added.

Sreenivasaiah was pursuing a Master’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and had previously completed his BTech from IIT Madras. Authorities have not yet disclosed the circumstances surrounding his death and said he had earlier been considered at risk.
