This Diwali, Ayodhya, the sacred birthplace of Lord Ram, adds a sparkling new attraction to its spiritual legacy — the world’s first Ramayana-themed Wax Museum. Known for hosting India’s grandest Deepotsav, the city now offers visitors an immersive journey into the epic of Ramayana, blending mythology, artistry, and cutting-edge technology. Built at a cost of Rs 6 crore, this cultural marvel has opened just in time for the festive celebrations, with tickets priced at an affordable Rs 100.
A Mythological Journey Comes to Life
Located along the picturesque Chaudah Kosi Parikrama route, opposite Kashiram Colony, the museum spans 9,850 square feet and is designed in South Indian temple architecture. Its gopuram-inspired façade, sculpted pillars, and intricate carvings instantly transport visitors to an era of divine grandeur.
Inside, over 50 life-size wax statues narrate the story of the Ramayana — from Lord Ram’s childhood to his coronation in Ayodhya. The ground floor captures tender moments like Ram Lalla’s early years, Sita’s swayamvar, and joyful palace scenes. The first floor brings the epic to life with forest exile, Lanka Dahan, and the legendary battle between Ram and Ravana, enhanced with 3D light effects and immersive soundscapes.
Crafted by Master Sculptors from Kerala
The museum is the brainchild of Sunil’s Wax Museum, the team behind popular installations in Lonavala and Thiruvananthapuram. Sunil’s team has blended southern craftsmanship with northern devotion, creating wax figures so lifelike that visitors often pause in disbelief.
"We had previously built celebrity wax museums in Lonavala (Maharashtra) and Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala). But this Ramayana museum in Ayodhya is truly unique. We have sculpted 50 characters from the Ramayana with such fine detail that visitors will feel as if they have stepped into the Treta Yuga," says Sunil, head of the museum, as reported by ANI.
Experience Spirituality and Comfort
Visitors to the Ramayana Wax Museum are greeted by a magnificent idol of Lord Ganesha at the entrance, symbolizing an auspicious start to their journey, while a special selfie point beside child Ram’s statue offers memorable photo opportunities for families.
The museum combines spirituality with comfort, featuring a coffee studio and snack zones, family-friendly leisure areas, fully air-conditioned halls maintained at 22°C, and 24x7 CCTV surveillance with multiple emergency exits. To ensure a calm and immersive experience, entry is limited to 100 visitors at a time.
A Global Tourist Attraction in the Making
Following the grand opening of the Ram Temple, the Ramayana Wax Museum is set to become a major tourism hotspot, attracting devotees and travellers from across India and beyond. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the museum during the ninth Deepotsav, emphasizing Ayodhya’s transformation into a world-class tourist city.
Visitors can enjoy a mix of North and South Indian cuisines, cultural displays, and a thrilling visual experience, such as Hanuman burning Lanka recreated with realistic lighting effects.
Highlights of the Museum
Whether you are a devotee, history enthusiast, or travel lover, the Ramayana Wax Museum in Ayodhya promises a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the epic of Ramayana. Step into the world of Treta Yuga, feel the devotion, and capture memories that last a lifetime.
