The Indian Embassy in Thailand has issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals amid escalating tensions and armed clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border. The advisory, published on Friday, July 25, 2025, comes in the wake of renewed violence that erupted a day earlier and has already claimed multiple lives.
According to the state-run Thai Public Broadcasting Service, border skirmishes broke out between Thai and Cambodian forces on July 24, leaving at least 11 dead and several others injured. The long-standing border dispute between the two Southeast Asian neighbours has rapidly intensified, with reports of small arms fire, artillery shelling, and airstrikes by Thailand targeting Cambodian positions.
"In view of the situation near Thailand-Cambodia border, all Indian travelers to Thailand are advised to check updates from Thai official sources, including TAT Newsroom," the Indian embassy said in an X post.
The embassy also shared an update from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), which warned against travel to seven provinces in the border region. The TAT post noted that “several attractions” in the following provinces are “not recommended” for visiting: Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Sisaket, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi and Trat.

These regions, all situated near or along Thailand’s eastern frontier with Cambodia, have seen heightened military activity since the latest round of violence erupted.
Indian nationals currently residing in or travelling through Thailand have been urged to exercise extreme caution, avoid non-essential travel to the affected areas, and remain in touch with local authorities for real-time updates. Those planning to visit the country are advised to closely monitor official sources and embassy channels for any developments.
With diplomatic negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia yet to make progress, the situation remains fluid and potentially volatile. Travelers are advised to stay alert and prioritise safety.
