In a remarkable push to boost eco-tourism in Maharashtra’s scenic Konkan region, the state’s first glass bridge has opened to the public. Suspended over the breathtaking Napne Waterfall near Vaibhavwadi in Sindhudurg, this newly unveiled structure offers a thrilling experience with panoramic views of cascading water and lush green hills below. Inaugurated on July 22, 2025, the glass bridge is part of the Sindhuratna tourism scheme, aimed at promoting lesser-known destinations across the state.
Local MLA Nitesh Rane, who officiated the inauguration, dedicated the project to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, referring to him as "Vikas Purush" on social media. The bridge reflects a broader commitment by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to create infrastructure that honours both natural heritage and community upliftment.

A Transparent Marvel in the Western Ghats
Poised above the perennial Napne Waterfall near Vaibhavwadi, the Napne Glass Bridge is not only the first of its kind in Maharashtra but also a compelling symbol of the region’s push towards sustainable, experience-based tourism. Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 99.63 lakh, the structure measures 22 metres in length and 2 metres in width, crafted from high-strength transparent glass that creates the exhilarating illusion of walking on air.
Designed with a fusion of aesthetic appeal and structural integrity, the bridge features vibrant arch-style railings, wooden-textured stairways, and an arresting butterfly sculpture at the entrance—an instant draw for photo-seekers. Complementing the bridge’s visual drama is a surrounding display of rock art and wildlife-themed murals, merging environmental education with outdoor recreation.
Why Napne Waterfall is Worth the Journey
Set against the backdrop of dense Konkan forests, Napne Waterfall is among the few year-round waterfalls in the region. Located near Nadhavade village and just a short distance from the Kolhapur–Talere National Highway, the site is celebrated for its biodiversity—home to hornbills, butterflies, and an abundance of endemic flora. With its lush surroundings and photographic potential, it attracts birdwatchers, trekkers, and quiet nature lovers alike.
While the terrain around the waterfall can be treacherous during monsoons, the newly constructed bridge offers a secure vantage point to appreciate the roaring cascade, even during the rainy season. This makes it a rare monsoon-accessible destination in an otherwise challenging landscape.
Getting There: Accessibility and Travel Routes
By Train: The most convenient rail access is via the Konkan Railway. Visitors may board the Mandovi Express or Konkan Kanya Express from Mumbai (CSMT, Dadar, or Panvel) to Vaibhavwadi Road (VBW). From there, the site is approximately 15 kilometres away by local taxi or auto rickshaw.
By Bus: Several private bus operators ply overnight routes from Mumbai to Vaibhavwadi, with journey times ranging from 9 to 11 hours. Fares vary from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 depending on the operator and class. Last-mile transport is readily available from the local bus stand.
By Road: For those travelling by car, the bridge is accessible via NH-66, passing through Ratnagiri. The drive from Mumbai spans roughly 390–450 km and takes about 9 hours. The bridge is located just 3–4 km off the Vaibhavwadi–Talere road, with well-maintained roads leading up to the destination.

Best Time to Visit
While Napne Waterfall maintains flow year-round, the ideal window for visiting the glass bridge is between September and February, when the forest is green and the waterfall is at its most photogenic. Summer months tend to be dry, and the peak monsoon season can hinder visibility and travel, although the bridge itself remains accessible.
A Vision for Sustainable Tourism
Developed under the Sindhuratna tourism scheme, this bridge is part of a larger effort to bring attention to Maharashtra’s lesser-known destinations. Far from being a mere novelty, the Napne Glass Bridge is poised to become an economic catalyst for the region, generating employment opportunities and attracting visitors throughout the year.
With panoramic vistas, robust engineering, and an immersive atmosphere, the bridge offers more than a sightseeing stop—it presents an invitation to rediscover the unspoiled beauty of Maharashtra’s Konkan coast. Whether you are a seasoned traveller in search of fresh perspectives or a city-dweller yearning for nature’s tranquillity, this skywalk above Napne promises a thrilling and unforgettable connection with the land, the water, and the wild.
