Come monsoon, Maharashtra’s Devkund Waterfall transforms into a cascading wonder surrounded by emerald hills and misty skies. But this year, adventure-seekers will have to put their plans on hold. The Raigad district administration has officially banned entry to Devkund Waterfall, Secret Point, and Tamhini Ghat from June 17 to September 30, 2025, amid growing safety and environmental concerns, as per reports.

The decision, reported by local authorities, aims to curb drowning incidents, road mishaps, and ecological damage—common risks during the rain-drenched months when these spots witness a surge in footfall.

Here’s What’s Banned

To ensure public safety and preserve the fragile landscape, the following activities are strictly prohibited within a 1-kilometre radius of the affected areas:

  • Swimming near or under waterfalls
  • Consuming alcohol
  • Taking selfies or videos in risky spots
  • Littering, especially with plastic
  • Entry of private vehicles (except emergency services)

District officials have confirmed that violators will face stringent legal action under safety and environmental laws.

Why This Matters

While monsoon adds a magical touch to Maharashtra’s forests and waterfalls, it also brings flash floods, slippery trails, and unpredictable water currents. The temporary closure is a preventive move to avoid accidents and protect the ecosystem, which often bears the brunt of reckless tourism during this time.

Devkund: A Beauty That Can Turn Brutal

Nestled near Bhira village in Raigad, Devkund Waterfall is a monsoon magnet. The 80-foot-high waterfall, formed by the confluence of three streams, gushes into a serene pool below—an irresistible draw for trekkers and nature lovers. But during heavy rainfall, even seasoned hikers can find the terrain treacherous and unforgiving.

Travellers Urged to Stay Away—for Now

Local authorities have appealed to citizens and tourists to avoid visiting these destinations until the ban is lifted. They’ve stressed the importance of respecting nature’s power, especially during the monsoon season.

So, if Devkund was on your monsoon travel list, it’s best to wait until October. The waterfall isn’t going anywhere—but your safety might, if you ignore the warnings.
