Indian Travellers Ditch Popular Hotspots—52% Opt For Peaceful Getaways This Summer

In 2025, Indian travellers are prioritising peaceful escapes, smarter planning, and off-season trips over crowded tourist hotspots, says a new travel report.

Peace over popularity: Indian travellers choose calm, crowd-free escapes this summer.

Summer isn’t just a season—it’s a mindset. It’s that irresistible urge to break free from routine, soak in new sights, and make memories that linger long after the tan fades. Whether it’s strolling barefoot on a quiet beach, hiking through misty hills, or wandering into tucked-away towns, summer 2025 is all about travel that’s meaningful—not manic.

And if the latest Smarter Summer Report by travel app Skyscanner is anything to go by, Indian travellers are embracing that mindset wholeheartedly. An impressive 96% say they plan to travel the same or even more than they did last year—but with a twist: they’re now opting for smarter, more intentional adventures.

A Shift Towards Silence and Solitude

Forget jam-packed tourist traps. This summer, 52% of Indian travellers are actively choosing quieter, offbeat destinations over the usual suspects. The urge to escape the crowds has never been stronger. And it’s not just about where people go—it’s also about when. The shoulder season—those sweet weeks just before or after peak tourist periods—is finally having its moment, with 1 in 2 travellers willing to shift their dates to avoid inflated prices and packed itineraries.

Travelling Differently, With Intention

Indian travellers are also rethinking how they explore. According to the report, 58% are seeking destinations they’ve never visited before, while over half plan to cover multiple spots in a single trip. This reflects a growing appetite for richer, more diverse experiences—ones that prioritise discovery, spontaneity, and connection over simple sightseeing.

Smarter Planning, Better Value

Value and flexibility are driving planning decisions in 2025. About 62% of Indian travellers are focusing on budget-friendly stays, and 56% are using comparison tools to score the best deals on flights, hotels, and rentals. Flexibility is king—84% are open to adjusting their travel dates, and 47% are willing to fly on less popular days to save money.

It’s not just about going somewhere—it’s about going smart.

Still Looking, Still Dreaming

Interestingly, even with clear travel goals, many are still exploring their options. Nearly half (49%) of Indian travellers have yet to book their summer holidays, with 38% still unsure of where to go. This shows that even experience-hungry travellers are seeking destination inspiration and smart planning tips to guide their decision.

This summer, Indian travellers are redefining what a vacation means. It’s no longer about ticking boxes or following the crowd—it’s about choosing peace over popularity, stretching your budget without compromising experiences, and planning trips that actually resonate.
