Following the deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station, the US and UK have issued travel advisories urging tourists in India to remain alert and avoid crowded areas.

A day after a deadly explosion outside Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station, the United States and the United Kingdom have issued travel advisories for their citizens visiting India. The November 10 blast, which occurred in a moving Hyundai i20 car near Gate No. 1 of the metro station at around 6:52 pm, has left 13 people dead and over 20 injured.

With several Indian states now on high alert, authorities have tightened security at city borders and intensified vehicle checks. The Delhi Police have invoked the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), citing possible terror links based on forensic and intelligence inputs.

US Travel Advisory for Citizens in India

The US Embassy in New Delhi has urged American citizens to exercise extreme caution while in India, particularly in crowded public spaces and popular tourist areas. In a statement, it said it is “continually monitoring the situation” and stands ready to provide consular assistance if needed.

The embassy has advised US citizens to avoid visiting areas surrounding Delhi’s Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, and to stay alert in tourist-heavy locations. Travellers are also encouraged to monitor local media, follow official instructions, and remain vigilant of their surroundings.

UK Travel Advisory for British Tourists

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has also updated its travel guidance following the Delhi blast. It noted:

“There has been an explosion at the Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station, New Delhi. If you’re in the immediate area, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local media.”

The UK government has urged its citizens to remain cautious, comply with local authority guidance, and avoid non-essential travel in sensitive areas.

In addition, the FCDO reiterated existing travel restrictions:

  • Avoid travel within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border.
  • Refrain from visiting Jammu and Kashmir, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, and Srinagar.
  • Travel along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway is discouraged, though air travel to and from Jammu and movement within Jammu city remain permitted.

Domestic Impact: Airlines Tighten Security

Amid increased nationwide security, Akasa Air has advised passengers to arrive at least three hours before departure at all airports to ensure smooth check-in and boarding. Other airlines are expected to implement similar precautions as authorities enhance security screenings across terminals.

What Tourists Should Do Now

Travellers in India are advised to:

  • Stay updated via credible news outlets and embassy alerts.
  • Avoid large gatherings, public transport hubs, and sensitive zones.
  • Carry valid identification at all times.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities and security personnel.
