Arunachal Pradesh is all set to transform into a paradise for nature lovers as the 8th Namdapha Butterfly Festival takes flight from November 26 to 28, 2025, in the serene Khachang village of Miao in Changlang district. The three-day event promises a colourful celebration of biodiversity, eco-tourism, and community-led conservation in the heart of Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve (NNP&TR) — one of the world’s most biodiverse regions.

A Celebration of Nature and Conservation

Organised by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in collaboration with local groups like Tikak Homestay Miao, Khachang-Mattungkhim Youth Forum, and Namdapha Jungle Camp Miao, the festival aims to unite nature enthusiasts, researchers, and local communities in spreading awareness about biodiversity conservation.

In a move to encourage community engagement, entry will be free for all local participants, ensuring inclusivity and active participation from nearby villages.

Home to Over 500 Butterfly Species

Namdapha National Park — often called the “butterfly capital of India” — hosts more than 500 species of butterflies, including some of the world’s rarest and most magnificent ones. Visitors can look forward to spotting species like the Kaiser-i-Hind, Blue Mormon, Peacock Pansy, Zigzag Flat, and Yellow-veined Lancer, fluttering through the park’s pristine rainforests and meadows.

What to Expect at the 3-Day Festival

From guided nature walks through butterfly trails to interactive conservation workshops, the festival offers a range of engaging experiences for tourists and locals alike. Activities include:

  • Butterfly identification sessions and photography contests for enthusiasts.
  • Nature walks led by local guides across Namdapha’s lush trails.
  • Cultural interactions and homestay experiences with local communities.
  • Talks and exhibitions highlighting sustainable eco-tourism practices.

These events aim to blend adventure with awareness, creating a meaningful travel experience for visitors of all ages.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss It

Beyond its breathtaking natural beauty, the Namdapha Butterfly Festival serves as a living classroom for eco-tourism and conservation education. It highlights the delicate balance between tourism and environment, empowering locals and visitors to play a part in protecting Arunachal Pradesh’s fragile ecosystems.

Whether you’re an avid lepidopterist, a photographer, or a traveller seeking untouched beauty, this festival offers a rare chance to witness the magic of butterflies in their natural habitat and the power of community-driven conservation.
