Yasin Malik

Malik, who is serving a life sentence for terror funding, claims the meeting was held at the behest of senior Indian intelligence officials during a period of intense, behind-the-scenes diplomacy between New Delhi and Islamabad.

The plea further claimed as Malik was a political figure, the authorities had declined his requests of a proper health investigation

I request you (Rahul) to bring to use your high moral and political influence in the Parliament and to initiate a debate in the case of Yasin Malik, says the Kashmiri separatist leader's wife.

In his affidavit, Malik expressed a commitment to following the "Gandhian way of resistance," indicating a profound shift in his ideology.

"Malik pulled out his gun after lifting the pheran and opened fire on us," says Rajwar Umeshwar Singh who suffered four bullet injuries in the attack

Mishal, a Pakistani national married to Malik, was appointed special advisor to the caretaker Prime Minister Kakar on human rights and women empowerment.

Mehta highlighted that there is an order passed by the Ministry of Home Affairs with regard to Malik under section 268 of the Criminal Code of Procedure which prevents the jail authorities to bring the said convict out of the jail premises for security reasons.

Malik has been charge sheeted in the case along with six others. The charges were framed against the accused in 2020, 20 years after CBI filed the charge sheet before a designated TADA court in Jammu.

Yasin Malik will also not be entitled to any parole or furlough since he is a convict in a case of terror funding, jail officials said.

The prosecution had sought a death penalty for Malik, who was convicted by the court on May 19. Malik had earlier pleaded guilty to all the charges including those under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in a terror funding case

Special Judge Praveen Singh directed the NIA authorities to assess Malik's financial situation to determine the amount of fine to be imposed and posted the matter for arguments on quantum of sentence on May 25.

Malik was also accused of orchestrating the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed – the daughter of then Union home minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed – in 1989

This is the second organisation in Jammu and Kashmir which has been banned this month. Earlier, the Centre had banned the Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.

The official said Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest at his Nigeen residence.
