  • Zomato CEO's temple gadget sparked viral rumors of a "brain tracker" device
  • Goyal clarified Temple is a prototype, not a commercial product yet
  • No scientific data or public release for Temple; internet speculation continues

The internet can turn anything into a trend, even a device that doesn’t exist in the market yet. That’s exactly what happened when Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal appeared on Raj Shamani’s podcast wearing a tiny gadget on his temple. The clip spread fast, and social media users quickly decided it was a “brain tracker,” even though there was no confirmation or any official announcement about such a product.

As the conversation kept getting louder, Goyal posted a statement on X asking everyone to take a breath. He wrote a “gentle reminder” to doctors and influencers who were already giving opinions about the device, advising people not to buy it, or dismissing it, or analysing it like it was sitting on a shopping app with a discount tag. Goyal clarified that Zomato has not made any public commercial announcements about Temple yet, and no benchmarking or scientific data has been released. He added that the device is still being developed, and the team is months away from sharing preview units publicly, if they ever decide to share them at all.

He also pointed out the irony in the most casual way possible. Experts were warning users not to buy an unvalidated device that literally cannot be ordered or pre-ordered right now. “That’s funny, tbh,” Goyal wrote, clearly amused at how confidently people were debating a product page that doesn’t exist.

Earlier when the device first appeared on the internet, Dr. Datta M.D., an AIIMS Delhi physician-scientist, known for his early research in arterial stiffness and pulse wave velocity, publicly dismissed the device’s current relevance. He said it has zero scientific standing as a useful tool, and advised people not to spend their savings on what he called “fancy billionaire toys.” His statement spread widely because it finally added balance to a conversation that had already left science behind and entered meme land.

Goyal later added that the science will be shared only if and when Temple becomes a commercial product. Until then, he encouraged people to stay curious and let skepticism play its role at the right moment, when there’s actually something to order, test, validate, and review.

For now, Temple is still a prototype, not a product. And the only thing it’s officially tracking is how fast the internet can build a story out of thin air.
