If you recently bought a Xiaomi 33W 20000mAh Power Bank with an integrated cable, it’s time to check your device. Xiaomi has announced a global recall of this model, following a similar move in China, after identifying a potential safety risk.

The recall specifically targets the PB2030MI model, which was produced between August and September 2024. According to the company, a batch of these power banks used the 126280 version 2.0 battery cell, which could overheat in certain situations and, in rare cases, even pose a fire hazard. While only a few incidents have been reported, Xiaomi has chosen to act proactively, recalling nearly 147,000 units worldwide to keep users safe.

How to check if your power bank is affected
The easiest way to know if your device is part of the recall is to check the serial number printed on the back of the power bank. Xiaomi has also provided an online verification tool for quick checking. If your serial number is missing or unreadable, unfortunately, it cannot be included in the refund process.

What you can get
Eligible customers are entitled to a full refund of 159 yuan (around Rs 1,940). There are two ways to claim it:

Visit a Xiaomi Home store – Staff will confirm if your device is eligible and issue a refund on the spot.
Online process – If you prefer, you can fully drain the power bank, safely dispose of it, and then upload proof of disposal along with your product details through Xiaomi’s official website to claim your refund.
It’s important to note that this recall only affects the PB2030MI model. All other Xiaomi power banks use different battery cells and are not part of this safety measure.

Xiaomi’s statement
The company apologised for any inconvenience and said the recall is a precautionary, voluntary step aimed at preventing accidents before they happen. Xiaomi urges all owners of the PB2030MI power bank to check their devices and complete the refund process as soon as possible.

So, if you have this power bank at home, don’t wait — check your serial number, follow the instructions, and claim your refund. It’s a small step to ensure your safety and peace of mind.
