Xiaomi has unveiled the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in China, positioning it as the brand’s latest flagship smartphone with a strong focus on imaging. The device introduces a new Leica-tuned camera system that combines a 1-inch primary sensor with a high-resolution 200MP periscope telephoto lens. Alongside camera upgrades, the phone brings changes across display, performance, software, and battery, continuing Xiaomi’s strategy of prioritising hardware capabilities at the top end of its portfolio.
The headline feature of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is its Leica-branded triple rear camera setup. The primary camera uses a 50MP 1-inch Light Fusion 1050L sensor with LOFIC technology, designed to improve dynamic range and light handling. This is paired with a 200MP Samsung HPE periscope telephoto sensor that supports continuous optical zoom, allowing smoother focal length transitions. A 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus completes the rear setup. On the front, Xiaomi has included a 50MP selfie camera.
Xiaomi has also announced a Leica Edition variant, which adds a mechanical zoom ring. This ring can be used to control focal length, exposure, and white balance, bringing physical camera-style controls to the smartphone form factor.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a 6.9-inch flat AMOLED LTPO display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The screen offers a 2608 x 1200 resolution and up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness. Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 is used for protection. The phone includes an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers. Colour options for the standard model include Black, Cool Smoke Purple, Starry Green, and White.
Performance and software
Powering the device is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The phone runs HyperOS 3.0 out of the box, with Xiaomi highlighting system-level AI features integrated across photography, productivity, and device optimisation.
Battery, connectivity, and pricing
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra houses a 6,800mAh silicon-carbon battery, supporting 90W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 22.5W reverse wired charging. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and satellite communication, along with IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings.
In China, pricing starts at CNY 6,999 for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant, with higher configurations priced up to CNY 8,499. The Leica Edition starts at CNY 7,999.
