The War Within is the upcoming expansion for Blizzard Entertainment's MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW). It is the 10th expansion of World of Warcraft and will set in motion the Worldsoul Saga, a “grand new adventure 20 years in the making”.

According to Blizzard Entertainment, The War Within is the “opening chapter of the most ambitious story arc” in World of Warcraft ever since the beginning of the MMORPG in 2004. Here are 11 things we know so far about the World of Warcraft The War Within.

In World of Warcraft The War Within, you’ll get to explore the continent of Khaz Algar that lies hidden beneath Azeroth. The War Within’s subterranean continent hides several wonders, dangers and treasures.

3. World of Warcraft The War Within: Important locations

World of Warcraft The War Within features four underground zones of Khaz Algar. These Khaz Algar underground zones are the Isle of Dorn, the Ringing Deeps, Hallowfall and AZJ-Kahet.

4. Meet a new, playable race

In World of Warcraft The War Within, you’ll meet a new allied race called the Earthen. The Earthen is “a titan-forged race made with living stone” that's “imbued with the essence of Azeroth’s Worldsoul”. You can enlist the help of the Earthen race and even unlock playable characters belonging to the Earthen race.

5. World of Warcraft The War Within: Who are we fighting?

In The War Within, the enemy is “an ancient evil lurking in the darkness”. In the depths of the Nerubian empire, the malevolent Harbinger of the Void is readying the arachnid army to assault Azeroth.

6. New endgame pillar ‘Delves’

Among many hidden things, the underground realm of Khaz Algar also contains treasure vaults. You can explore these world instances alone or with up to 3 more players and an NPC. Before the epic loot, however, you have to defeat game bosses.

7. New class feature: Hero Talents

World of Warcraft The War Within comes with new Hero Talent trees. Each World of Warcraft character class can choose from two Hero Talent trees.

8. Account-wide Alt system: Warbands

With an account-wide progression system across the family of characters on Battle.net account, you can expand your alternate characters.

9. New dungeons, raids

World of Warcraft The War Within adds eight new dungeons and one challenging raid.

10. World of Warcraft The War Within: Platforms and release date 

World of Warcraft: The War Within will launch exclusively for PC (Microsoft Windows) and Mac worldwide on August 26, 2024.

11. World of Warcraft The War Within: Game Editions and Pre-purchases

The War Within expansion pack comes in three game editions--Base, Heroic and Epic-- and is available for pre-purchase on Battle.net.
