Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has been introducing lots of new features lately and now is rolling out a new ‘Context Card’ feature that will make it safer for users to join a group if they are added by someone they don't know. This new contextual information feature is designed to provide WhatsApp users with relevant information about the group that they've been added to, along with a shortcut to exit the group.
WhatsApp’s new Context Card feature: How to use it?
The ‘Context Card’ feature builds on WhatsApp's existing safety and privacy features. Users can already control who can add them to groups through privacy settings. However, with this feature, WhatsApp will give you further details about any unknown group such as: Who added you, how recently the group was created, and who created the group.
After a user is invited to a group, they have three days to accept joining the group link before it expires. The invite will show up as any normal message and you won’t be added to the group until you tap the Join Group button via the invite link.
WhatsApp emphasizes that this update represents an additional layer of safety and security features of the app. It’s also similar to the current experience in one-to-one messaging, where you’re given more context and allowed to block or report the user.
According to WhatsApp, The ‘Context Card’ feature has already begun rolling out to limited users and will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
