Snapchat has rolled out expanded arrival notifications on Snap Map, extending its Home Safe feature with more flexible location-based alerts. The update allows users to automatically notify trusted friends when they reach selected destinations, moving beyond home-only confirmations to support everyday routines such as classes, meetings, travel stops, and social plans.

Since the launch of Home Safe, over one million users have already used the feature to confirm safe arrivals. The new expansion is designed to make location sharing more practical and automatic without relying on manual messages.

How arrival notifications work

Arrival notifications let users set alerts for specific locations directly on the map. These can be configured as one-time alerts or recurring notifications, depending on daily or weekly routines.

Once activated, Snapchat automatically sends a notification to selected friends when the user arrives at the chosen location. This can be used for situations such as returning to accommodation while traveling, reaching a regular class or practice session, or arriving safely after events.

The system removes the need to remember to send updates, creating a passive way to stay connected while on the move.

Privacy and safety controls

Snapchat has emphasised that arrival notifications are built with user control at the centre. Alerts are only shared with friends who already have location-sharing permission. Location sharing remains turned off by default, meaning no one can track movements unless users actively enable it.

For one-time alerts, the notification expires once triggered or after 24 hours, preventing long-term tracking. Users can modify or disable location sharing at any time within their settings.

Getting started with the feature

To use arrival notifications, users first share their location with a trusted friend. From the friendship profile, they can access the arrival notifications section, choose a location on the map, name it for personal reference, and select whether the alert should be one-time or recurring.

Once set, the system automatically handles notifications in the background.

Snap Map now sees more than 400 million monthly users worldwide, making it one of the most used mobile maps for social connection and local discovery. With the expansion of arrival notifications, Snapchat is positioning the platform as a practical safety and communication tool alongside its social features, supporting everyday mobility in a more automated and privacy-focused way.
