Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy S26 series tonight, with the lineup expected to come with the usual three models, including the top-end Galaxy S26 Ultra. A recent unboxing video of the smartphone showed off the yet-to-be-announced ‘privacy display’ feature, which keeps sensitive information safe by blocking the display from side angles for enhanced privacy. The feature is so exciting that Samsung’s Chinese rivals, like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, could also adopt it in their upcoming flagship devices.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra privacy display: Here’s how it will work

The privacy display is an upcoming Samsung feature for the Galaxy S26 Ultra that helps to keep the phone’s display from prying eyes. This new software-hardware hybrid feature allows the display to become unreadable from side angles, effectively blocking the on-screen view for anyone who is watching the phone’s display from side angles.

Existing Samsung smartphone users, who were hoping to receive this feature via a software update, will be disappointed, as, according to technical leaks, this capability relies on the specific properties of the OLED M14 technology, with the company using older M13 panel displays on previous Galaxy devices. Interestingly, a recent post by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo claims that upcoming Android flagship smartphones from popular Chinese smartphone brands like Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo, launching around September, could feature similar privacy display capabilities.

This means that the successors to the Xiaomi 17, Oppo Find X9, and Vivo X300 series could feature this advanced display technology, offering similar privacy with the help of the latest OLED M14 display panel. Apple is also rumoured to offer a similar privacy display feature with its MacBook models, from 2029. More details about these upcoming smartphones are expected to be revealed in the coming months ahead of their potential launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
