The National Lok Adalat, originally scheduled for December 13, 2025, will now be held on January 10, 2026, the second Saturday of the month. The postponement was announced after December 13 was declared a court sitting day by the High Court of Delhi. The decision was taken by the Executive Chairman of the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA).
On January 10, the Lok Adalat will be conducted across all Delhi District Court Complexes, giving vehicle owners a one-day opportunity to settle eligible traffic e-challans without lengthy court proceedings.
How to get traffic challans removed or resolved: Step-by-step guide
Step 1: Check pending traffic challans
Start by checking whether your vehicle has any pending challans. Visit the Delhi Traffic Police website or the Parivahan portal. Enter your vehicle registration number or challan number to view all unpaid e-challans linked to your vehicle. Only challans visible on official portals can be taken up in the Lok Adalat.
Step 2: Confirm eligibility of challans
Before registering, verify whether your challans fall under minor and compoundable offences. Serious violations such as drunk driving or hit-and-run cases are not eligible and will not appear for settlement under the Lok Adalat process.
Step 3: Register online for Lok Adalat
Eligible vehicle owners must complete online registration in advance. Visit the Delhi Traffic Police website or the DSLSA Lok Adalat registration page. Enter vehicle details, challan numbers, and contact information carefully. Walk-in cases are generally not accepted.
Step 4: Download token and appointment letter
After successful registration, a token number and appointment or confirmation slip will be generated. Download and print this document. The token and appointment letter are mandatory for entry and case listing at the Lok Adalat.
Step 5: Visit the assigned court on January 10
On the day of the Lok Adalat, visit the court complex mentioned in your appointment letter. Carry original documents, including vehicle registration certificate, driving licence, insurance papers, pollution certificate, and challan receipts.
Step 6: Case hearing and settlement
Your case will be taken up by the Lok Adalat bench, usually comprising a judicial officer and a legal services authority representative. Based on the nature of the offence, the bench may reduce the fine or waive it fully.
Step 7: Pay the revised fine and collect receipt
If a settlement is reached, pay the revised amount at the designated counter on the same day. An official receipt will be issued, and the challan will be marked as resolved in the system.
Eligibility: Which challans can be settled
Minor traffic offences such as driving without a helmet or seatbelt, over-speeding, jumping red lights, wrong parking, driving without a valid PUC certificate, ignoring traffic signs, missing number plates, and incorrectly issued challans are eligible. In limited cases, driving without a licence may also be considered.
Serious offences, challans from other states, and cases already pending in regular courts are excluded.
Courts where Lok Adalat will be held
The National Lok Adalat on January 10, 2026 will be held at all Delhi District Court Complexes, including Tis Hazari, Dwarka, Rohini, Saket, Patiala House, Karkardooma, and Rouse Avenue courts, along with the High Court of Delhi and Permanent Lok Adalats.
