Apple is lining up one of its busiest iPhone years in recent memory. According to current reports and supply chain chatter, the company has more than 20 products in development for 2026 launches, with four distinct iPhone models scheduled to arrive across the year. The lineup spans budget-friendly hardware, premium flagships, and Apple’s long-rumoured entry into foldables.
The first launch is expected to happen much sooner than usual. The iPhone 17e is tipped to arrive within the next month or two, making it Apple’s earliest iPhone release of the year. Positioned as the successor to the iPhone 16e, the 17e is set to complete the iPhone 17 family rather than replace the mainline model.
The iPhone 17e is rumoured to bring several meaningful upgrades over its predecessor. It is expected to run on the new A19 chip, replacing the A18, and finally adopt Dynamic Island instead of the older notch design. Other expected improvements include a Centre Stage-enabled front camera, slimmer bezels for a more contemporary look, and the return of MagSafe support. That said, Apple is still making clear compromises. The phone is expected to ship with just a single rear camera, no ProMotion or always-on display support, and no Camera Control feature. With an anticipated price of $599, the iPhone 17e appears aimed squarely at users who want modern Apple hardware without paying flagship prices.
Later in the year, attention will shift to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which are expected to launch in September. These models are said to build on the strong momentum of last year’s iPhone 17 Pro. The upgrades are likely to be evolutionary rather than dramatic, but still substantial. Reports point to larger batteries, the debut of the A20 Pro chip built on 2nm technology, and a smaller Dynamic Island that could shrink down to a hole-punch design. Apple is also rumoured to integrate Face ID under the display for the first time, alongside a more seamlessly blended rear glass design, a variable aperture camera system, and a new C2 cellular modem. If the success of the 17 Pro models is any indication, these refinements could be more than enough to drive strong demand.
The first foldable iPhone could finally arrive
The most radical addition to the lineup is expected to arrive alongside the Pro models. After years of speculation, Apple’s first foldable iPhone is finally expected to launch this fall. Commonly referred to as the iPhone Fold, or possibly iPhone Ultra, the device is rumoured to start at $2,000 or more. It is said to feature an ultra-thin titanium frame inspired by the iPhone Air, a 7.6-inch inner display, and a 5.4-inch outer display using a book-style fold with no visible crease. The foldable is also expected to pack Apple’s largest-ever iPhone battery, although real-world endurance remains an open question. Internally, it should use the same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro models. Camera hardware is expected to include two rear cameras and two front-facing cameras, one for each display. Due to space constraints, Apple may rely on Touch ID instead of Face ID.
One notable absence from the 2026 roadmap is the standard iPhone 18. Traditionally, Apple launches its base model alongside the Pro versions in the autumn. This year, however, the base iPhone 18 is reportedly being pushed into early 2027. If that plan holds, Apple would follow up the 2026 launches with the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and potentially an iPhone Air 2 next spring.
Taken together, this staggered approach suggests Apple is rethinking its iPhone release strategy. Rather than one massive annual launch, the company appears to be spreading attention across the year, while reserving its boldest experiment yet for the high end.
