OpenAI’s Chief Operating Officer, Brad Lightcap, recently shared some impressive numbers. Lightcap highlighted the first week of image generation capabilities within ChatGPT. Over 130 million users have collectively created more than 700 million images since the feature's launch last Tuesday — a figure that shows how ‘viral’ the feature went.

In a post on social media platform X, Lightcap acknowledged India's remarkable growth as OpenAI’s fastest-expanding market, signaling the growing interest and accessibility of AI technology in the region. The tweet included the Indian flag emoji alongside a flexed arm emoji, celebrating the country’s pivotal role in driving ChatGPT’s visual creativity endeavors.

The OpenAI COO emphasised the inspiring range of visual creativity exhibited by users, showcasing the potential for generative AI to unlock new dimensions of imagination and self-expression.

Lightcap also expressed gratitude for users' patience as OpenAI works tirelessly to ensure reliable service amidst surging demand. The team continues to operate “around the clock,” striving to accommodate the platform's growing user base and refine its capabilities, said Lightcap.

A couple of days back, OpenAI chief Sam Altman also revealed how India is adopting AI. In a recent post on social media platform X, Altman lauded India’s progress in AI, stating, “What’s happening with AI adoption in India right now is amazing to watch. We love to see the explosion of creativity — India is outpacing the world.”

A recent Deloitte report also revealed that India is emerging as a global leader in Agentic AI adoption, with more than 80% of Indian firms “actively exploring the development of autonomous agents, indicating a substantial shift towards Agentic AI." After his visit to India in February, Altman also highlighted the country’s growing importance in the global AI landscape.
