The CrowdStrike update took out millions of Windows PCs

After its faulty software update bricked millions of Windows PCs, Texas-based cybersecurity technology company CrowdStrike has been trying to repair the damage caused. In a recent LinkedIn post, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz has claimed that 97% of the Windows sensors that went offline during the global outage (said to be one of the biggest IT outages in history) are now back online and working properly. He did add that the cybersecurity company's work was not complete and it is trying to restore every impacted system.

In a lengthy LinkedIn post, the CrowdStrike CEO said: “I want to share that over 97% of Windows sensors are back online as of July 25. This progress is thanks to the tireless efforts of our customers, partners, and the dedication of our team at CrowdStrike. However, we understand our work is not yet complete, and we remain committed to restoring every impacted system.”

Kurtz further reassured customers and said, “To our customers still affected, please know we will not rest until we achieve full recovery. At CrowdStrike, our mission is to earn your trust by safeguarding your operations. I am deeply sorry for the disruption this outage has caused and personally apologize to everyone impacted. While I can’t promise perfection, I can promise a response that is focused, effective, and with a sense of urgency”.

CrowdStrike CEO on recovery efforts and preparing for the future

The CrowdStrike CEO said that by using automatic recovery techniques and mobilizing all the company resources, CrowdStrike’s recovery efforts have been enhanced. Kurtz added that CrowdStrike has published a preliminary incident report (PIR) detailing how the global IT outage happened and the measures the company is taking to prevent something like that from happening in the future.

The global IT outage caused due to a faulty CrowdStrike update to Microsoft Windows systems grievously affected major sectors like the air travel industry, banking and payment systems and the healthcare industry.
