Google brings Blue verification tick to Gmail on Android and iOS, here's what it means for users

Google is going to start displaying a blue checkmark next to select verified or brand names on Gmail to verify their identity. The announcement was made via Google’s latest Workspace updates blog. The feature was previously available on the Gmail web app and is now coming to Android and the IOS app. With this update, we can see the blue tick avatar next to a sender’s name and address.

What is Gmail Blue verification tick and what it means for users

This feature is a part of Gmail’s feature BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification). BIMI also allows senders with a registered trademark to verify their brand logo through and display it as a custom Gmail avatar. Google suggests that this update will help users identify messages from legitimate senders versus impersonators.

Moreover, tapping on any verified blue checkmark logo will show the following prompt: ‘This sender of this email has verified that they own [example.com] and the logo in the profile image.’ Previously, blue checkmarks were introduced on social media websites like X, Facebook, Instagram, and more.

The blue checkmark verification feature has started rolling out for Android and iOS devices and will take about two weeks to reach all users. Additionally, it will be visible to all Google Workspace subscribers and users with personal Google accounts.
