Neuralink, the brain technology startup owned by Elon Musk, has confirmed that it had fixed an issue that saw its first patient's ability to move a computer cursor greatly reduced. Previously, Neuralink had installed a brain implant in Noland Arbaugh, the company's first human test subject, and it was claimed to be successful back then.

Arbaugh was paralysed from the shoulders down by a diving accident eight years ago. However, Neuralink via a blog post wrote that in the weeks after the January surgery on Noland Arbaugh, some of the electrode-studded threads that sit in the brain tissue began to retract. Owing to this, the device did not work properly, and further complications arose.
Neuralink has assured that it has compensated for the retraction with a series of software fixes and “produced a rapid and sustained improvement that has now superseded Noland’s initial performance." These issues were first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
However, according to Neuaralink’s blog post, Arbaugh has been able to do a variety of tasks, which were previously impossible for him.  So far, he’s been able to browse the internet, use his computer, and play video games such as Chess, Civilization VI, and Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Switch, which is a big improvement.
Neuralink also wants to Arbaugh’s abilities in the future. It hopes that Arbaugh will be able to type and control robotic arms, wheelchairs, and other tech with the help of the brain implant.
Neuralink was founded by Elon Musk in 2016 and aims to build direct communication channels between the brain and computers for patients with neurological disorders.
