Bengaluru airport has emerged as the largest Digi Yatra hub in the country, with the facial recognition-based travel platform witnessing rapid adoption across major and regional airports over the past two years.

Official data shared by the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, in a written response to the Rajya Sabha on December 15 shows that cumulative Digi Yatra app downloads rose sharply from 38 lakh at the end of 2023 to 92.8 lakh by December 2024, and further to around 1.9 crore by November 2025.

“At present, Digi Yatra is operational at 24 airports, with plans to roll it out across all airports in a phased manner. The government does not fund the initiative, with the costs being borne by airport operators,” he said.

Bengaluru leads airport-wise usage

Bengaluru recorded the highest Digi Yatra usage among all Indian airports in both 2024 and 2025. In calendar year 2024, the airport logged around 75.7 lakh Digi Yatra users, the highest nationally. Monthly usage remained consistently above 5.6 lakh passengers, peaking at over 7.18 lakh in October.

The upward trend continued in 2025, with Bengaluru clocking about 76.9 lakh Digi Yatra users between January and November. Monthly volumes touched a high of 7.52 lakh passengers in November, reinforcing the airport’s position as the backbone of Digi Yatra adoption.

Delhi, Mumbai narrow the gap

Delhi ranked second in overall Digi Yatra usage, recording about 63.4 lakh users in 2024. Adoption gathered pace in 2025, with monthly users rising from roughly 4.6 lakh in January to over 7.4 lakh by November, taking total usage to around 57.3 lakh during the January-November period.

Mumbai, which saw a sharper ramp-up only in the latter half of 2024, recorded about 27.1 lakh Digi Yatra users that year. In 2025, however, usage jumped significantly to around 50.1 lakh users, reflecting stronger passenger acceptance, even as month-to-month volumes fluctuated.

Hyderabad, Kolkata show mixed trends

Hyderabad continued to show steady Digi Yatra adoption, with about 36.7 lakh users in 2024 and around 37.9 lakh users between January and November 2025. Monthly volumes remained largely stable, underlining consistent passenger uptake.

Kolkata recorded roughly 35.8 lakh Digi Yatra users in 2024, but usage moderated in 2025, with total users falling to about 22.4 lakh during the January-November period, in line with softer monthly volumes through the year.

Tier-2 airports see rapid growth

Beyond metro hubs, several Tier-2 and regional airports saw multi-fold growth after being onboarded in late 2024. Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Cochin reported steady increases through 2025, while airports such as Indore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Vizag, Raipur and Coimbatore recorded sharp jumps from a low base.

Even smaller airports, including Ranchi and Bagdogra, crossed monthly Digi Yatra usage of 20,000 passengers by November 2025. The data shows that Digi Yatra’s growth has closely tracked its expansion to newer airports, alongside increasing passenger comfort with facial authentication for airport entry and security checks.
