Apple on Tuesday announced MacBook Neo, a new entry-level laptop designed to expand the Mac lineup with a lower starting price.
Design and Display
MacBook Neo features an aluminum enclosure and weighs 2.7 pounds. It comes in four color options: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. The device includes a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a 2408-by-1506 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, and support for one billion colors. An anti-reflective coating is included for improved visibility in varied lighting conditions.
Performance and Apple Silicon
The laptop is powered by Apple’s A18 Pro chip, featuring a 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. According to Apple, MacBook Neo delivers up to 50 percent faster performance for everyday tasks compared to select Intel Core Ultra 5-powered PCs. For on-device AI workloads, the company claims up to 3x faster performance.
MacBook Neo uses a fanless architecture for silent operation and supports Apple Intelligence features integrated into macOS.
Battery Life and Connectivity
Apple says the device offers up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge. Connectivity options include two USB-C ports that support charging and external displays, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 6.
Camera, Audio, and Input
The laptop includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones with directional beamforming, and dual side-firing speakers supporting Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. It also features Apple’s Magic Keyboard, a large Multi-Touch trackpad, and Touch ID for authentication and Apple Pay purchases.
Software and Ecosystem
MacBook Neo runs macOS Tahoe, which includes built-in apps such as Safari, Photos, Messages, and FaceTime. Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools and Live Translation are integrated across the system.
The device also supports Continuity features for iPhone users, including Handoff, Universal Clipboard, and iPhone Mirroring.
Availability
MacBook Neo is available to pre-order starting today, with retail availability beginning Wednesday, March 11. Pricing in India starts at Rs 69,900.
