Apple has expanded its iPhone luggage-tracking capability by extending airline support for the Share Item Location feature in the Find My app. With the update, passengers flying with Air India, Lufthansa, and 34 other global airlines can now share the live location of AirTag-equipped baggage directly with airline staff to help locate delayed or misplaced luggage.
The feature, introduced with iOS 18.2, allows iPhone users to generate a temporary web link from the Find My app. This link shows the real-time or last known location of an item fitted with an AirTag and can be shared securely with authorised third parties, including airline baggage teams. The shared access automatically ends once the item is recovered or after seven days, whichever comes first.
Apple says the expanded airline support is aimed at improving coordination between passengers and airlines during baggage disruptions, especially at large hubs where bags can be misrouted or delayed during transfers.
How the feature works on iPhone
Users running iOS 18.2 or later can create a Share Item Location link from the Find My app for any AirTag-equipped item. Airline employees can open the link in a browser to view the bag’s location on a map, which refreshes as new location data becomes available through Apple’s Find My network. The feature also works with third-party trackers that support Apple’s network.
Airlines supporting Apple’s luggage tracking feature
With the latest expansion, the feature is now supported by the following 36 airlines:
AJet, Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air France, Air India, Air New Zealand, American Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Breeze Airways, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Condor, Copa Airlines, Delta, Eurowings, Finnair, Flair Airlines, Iberia, JetBlue, KLM, LATAM Airlines, Lufthansa, Pegasus Airlines, Porter Airlines, Qantas, Saudia, Singapore Airlines, SunExpress, SWISS, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Vueling, and WestJet.
Why this update matters
AirTag usage for luggage tracking has grown steadily among frequent flyers, but coordination with airlines has often been informal. By officially supporting shared AirTag locations, airlines can integrate passenger-provided location data into baggage recovery workflows, potentially reducing wait times and uncertainty during delays.
Apple has indicated that more airlines are expected to support the feature in the future, as global carriers continue to adopt tools that improve baggage handling transparency for travellers.
